Busy Busy

Posted in daily rambling at 12:07 am by fakeppy

Its been busy around here the last few days! We had my bday party at my parents house on Saturday which was lots o’ fun. They had a cookout and I had a cake and everything hehe…

I’ve been doing LOTS of genealogy stuff lately! Sleep is eluding me, so I stay up all night reading censuses lol!!! Yeah, I’m weird like that!

Today was Trey’s first day of evaluations. Poor little guy peed his pants, so he must have been VERY engrossed in whatever they were doing because I can’t even tell you the last time he did that… Oh well. He seemed to have a great time, though! He is really excited about going back tomorrow! We will get the results on the 6th, and then we have a conference to make decisions about placement, etc. I’m nervous, but confident that all will go well.

Well, we JUST missed Hailey – the dog in the last post. She’s going to be adopted by another family this weekend. But that’s ok because at least she’s getting a good home!

New Dog?????

Posted in dog at 6:42 pm by fakeppy

Well, we’ve been thinking for a long time about getting a smaller dog for the kids to enjoy. They LOVE Athena, but she’s just a bit too much for them. Also, an opportunity came up this weekend that might give Athena a new home with lots of other dogs to play with in the country – which she would love. (Also, the kids would still be able to see her sometimes…)

UPDATE: YAY!!! Athena’s potential new home has panned out! He is excited to get her and can’t wait! He wants her to be an inside dog, too, so that’s awesome since that’s what she’s used to.

So………….. I’ve been searching online for a smaller dog and we put in an application to adopt this sweet little thing:

She’s a Sheltie and weighs about 23 pounds. Best part: she’s already HOUSEBROKEN and walks great on a leash. She’s 3.5 years old, and great with kids.

Hopefully the application process doesn’t take too long, because we broke the news to the kids tonight about the possible plans and it wasn’t really very pretty. But – once they found out we weren’t trying to tell them we weren’t going to HAVE a dog, they were much happier. Also, knowing Athena could be going to this certain person’s house helped alot, too. We’ll see!!!

Pretty Quiet

I’ve been keeping really busy with genealogy lately. I got hooked back up with Ancestry.com now that they have a monthly option and I’ve been finding out lots of fun stuff. (Mostly census info)

Other than that, things are pretty hum-drum around here… We did watch a couple of movies lately though:

1408: I think I might have mentioned watching this one before, but I can’t remember and too lazy to check archives. Its good – different – not exactly scary like a horror movie but definitely FREAKY! lol

Knocked Up: funny funny funny!

And just in time for Halloween ^^
Hellraiser: Stupid, but classic lol

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to ME
Happy Birthday to ME
Happy Birthday to Keppy…
Happy Birthday to ME!

I went to Dorothy’s house for a short overnight stay on Wednesday and we had so much fun!! We made 3 loaves of white bread, 2 batches of muffins, 1 loaf of challah, and 2 loaves of 100% whole wheat. Then the next morning Dorothy fixed me scrapple and fried eggs for breakfast – YUM!! HAHA After that we went driving to local cemeteries taking pictures of headstones for genealogical records. One funny story – we were looking for one particular stone in an old cemetery that I knew was there because I’d seen it before. I knew it had been knocked over, but couldn’t find it. We found one that was half-covered with dirt, so I started pulling the dirt off. After digging out the stone it ended up being the wrong one anyway and I was very sad… BUT – we drove to the gas station where my cousin works so I could wash up and I stuck my hand in her face and said “I’ve been digging in the grave yard!” She said, “You are the weirdest person I know!” LOL!!!

We had a delicious meal at the local bowling alley in my hometown (my favorite place there to eat). They have the best food!!! MMM MMM GOOD

So then I came home and Charles took me out to Maggiano’s for a late supper and much to my surprise our total bill ended up being $25!! HAHA! Can’t beat that! Especially at someplace so nice!

We are going to spend the evening at the hospital visiting with Bobby and Jada but tomorrow night we are hopefully going to go out for my birthday – I’m hoping for Outback and a movie, but we’ll see!!

Wal-Mart doing something right????
Wow… of course I don’t shop at Wal-Mart so I don’t know when these are available around here – but I like the slogan – “Paper or plastic? Neither” If it weren’t promoting Wal-Mart to buy one, I’d definitely get one when they get to this part of the nation lol.

1408: Different…

Night of the Living Dead: The original 1968 version.

In the news:
Prescription Vodka! ^^

Doctors used a case of vodka to help save an Italian tourist being treated for poisoning in a Queensland hospital. And hospital authorities later proved very understanding about the booze bill.

The 24-year-old man was brought to Mackay Base Hospital, in north Queensland, two months ago after he had ingested a large amount of the poisonous substance ethylene glycol, found in antifreeze, which can cause renal failure and is often fatal.

In details just released by the hospital, Dr Pascal Gelperowicz, who led the man’s treatment with Dr Todd Fraser, said the man was unconscious on arrival and his treatment was started immediately with pharmaceutical-grade alcohol, which works as an antidote to the poison.

But the hospital’s alcohol supplies were soon exhausted.

“We quickly used all the available vials of 100 per cent alcohol and decided the next best way to get alcohol into the man’s system was by feeding him spirits through a naso gastric tube,” Dr Gelperowicz said.

Dr Fraser said while the treatment was unconventional, it was very successful, with the patient having now made a full recovery.

“The patient was drip-fed about three standard drinks an hour for three days in the intensive care unit,” he said.

“The hospital’s administrators were also very understanding when we explained our reasons for buying a case of vodka.”

It’s believed the man was poisoned when attempting self-harm.
