Sewing sewing

Posted in daily rambling at 8:14 pm by fakeppy

My first quilt ever is officially 1/2 complete. I am making a denim rag quilt, it will be frayed with the seams showing, denim on the front, flannel on the back. So far its pretty cute. Its not perfect, but I like it. :-) And Ally has given it her seal of approval, so it must be ok haha!

Sydney had two games this weekend, so things have been hectic. They lost yesterday, but I think it was tied today. They don’t really keep score, so sometimes its hard to know lol.

And, what a bad mommy I was today, I forgot the sunblock and poor Ally has a sunburn. >< I’m normally really almost anal about sunblock and my kids skin, but for some reason I just spaced today. I feel so bad about it, but there isn’t anything I can do now. I am burnt too, but not as bad as she is. (She’s not burned really badly, just red.)

Sorry so quiet…

Posted in whining at 10:55 pm by fakeppy

I’ve been quiet lately because I’m just taking it easy, I don’t feel well. I have a cold, but its not so bad that I FEEL so bad, its just taking all my energy and I’ve been seriously lazy. Also, I have a really REALLY bad pain in my heel (could it be a bone spur??) and I’ve hurt my elbow. WAAAH poooooor Keppy!!!!! I know, I whine too much, but that’s how I am when I’m sick lol.

New Song Obsession

Posted in linky linky, music, videos at 7:47 pm by fakeppy

Ok, I am not ashamed (well, maybe a little) to admit that I enjoy Justin Timberlake’s music. I am really hooked on his new single, What Goes Around…Comes Around. I really like everything about this song lol. Actually, his entire new album rocks, and let me tell you, I’m not a “Justin Timberlake” type-a-gal! (Whatever that is…) Also, Scarlett Johansson is in the video and she is pretty frikkin’ cool, imho.

Soccer Status 1 and 1

Posted in daily rambling at 8:58 pm by fakeppy

Well, they won yesterday, but lost today. Sydney had lots of people cheering for her today, though! My two Aunts Sandy and Marty came to her game along with Marty’s kids, Miranda and Jackson (mentioned on the blog earlier as the Easter Egg Hunt King lol.) Syd didn’t get any goals this time, but she did have a noticeably better game today. She was less afraid of the ball and the other players. She did great.

Afterwards we went to Ritter’s Frozen Custard and I had something new – “Lemon Drop” Italian Ice and it was tasty. They also have a “Cherry Bomb” but it’s SOOOOOO cherry it makes me wanna gag lol… I always like Ritter’s – mmm mmm good!

On the sewing front, I have 3 bags completed and 3 more ready to sew together. These are SO cheap to make! As I’m making them currently, 1yd will make 2 bags. That might change as I change the design a little, correcting things I don’t like and improving the design, etc. I’ll try to get pics up tomorrow of the bags and also of Syd’s game yesterday.

I am a SEWER…

Posted in purse, sewing at 9:09 pm by fakeppy

That’s one who sews, not the place your toilet bowl empties into! hehe

Yup, its true. Thanks to Laura who told me about the sale at JoAnn Fabrics, I bought a sewing machine! And tonight I went to Wal-Mart and bought some cheap fabric and winged a tote bag, of my own design – a-thank-you, a-thank-you…

The one complaint I have is that I didn’t have enough FABRIC (or MATERIAL, as Dorothy would say) to make long enough handles lol, so the handles are retardedly short, but that’s ok. I have another one ready to finish I will just go grab a bit more FABRIC for longer handles on this next one. It’s fully lined with matching FABRIC, and some stiff interfacing. I wanted it pretty strong, because I am making these for reusable grocery bags.

Here are some pics (low quality, taken with a camera phone).

Not bad for not having sewn in YEARS and having no pattern! :-) And yes, that IS Trey with the scissors in the background, what, like you don’t let your kids run with scissors, too – WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Silverman, anyone?

Posted in family, movies at 11:45 am by fakeppy

So my MIL came last night to spend the night and watch Sydney’s first soccer game (which they won, btw, and Sydney made a goal – woot!) The kids were jumping around and injured her hand, so she and Charles spent 5hrs in the ER… While they were gone I watched Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic. (WARNING: If you are easily offended by crude language, racial slurs, or religious jokes do not watch this movie… but if you AREN’T then by all means… indulge lol.) This wasn’t the best movie ever or anything like that, but it was pretty funny. Some of it wasn’t funny, but some parts had me literally LMAO at 4am. :-) Personally, I think Sarah Silverman is really funny, but I appreciate her crude humor, and some people would easily be offended by many of the things she has to say.

(BTW, MIL’s hand wasn’t broken, just sprained, so that’s good news.)

The Little Cuties (belated Love Thursday)

Posted in kids, love thursday, pics at 12:14 pm by fakeppy

Love is helping your little brother get up after a spill on the mean ol’ tricycle.

Love is trying to teach your little sister how to ride a bicycle.

Love is wallowing all over your dog showing her how much you love her, and having her bite you lovingly in return. Love is watching the squirrel eat in your backyard.

Love is Ruby Red Slippers… ’nuff said :-)

Rumspringa

Posted in documentary at 7:21 pm by fakeppy

Today I watched The Devil’s Playground a documentary about Amish kids and Rumspringa, which is where at the age of 16 they can live outside the Amish rules like “normal English” kids. They date (unchaperoned), watch movies, drink, get high, drive, smoke, cuss, go to concerts, dress in “English” clothes, etc. Then somewhere between 16 and 21 (normally) they either decide to commit to the church for life (with no judgment for things they did during Rumspringa), or leave for good.

One of the Amish men interviewed said that they DID have the same problems that the “English” did, i.e. unwed mothers, addiction, alcoholism, etc. when the kids return from Rumspringa, but if the person decides to come back and give up all those things and commit totally to the rules of the church, its all looked over by the church.

I watched a mini-documentary about this film a few years ago on 48hrs or something and had always wanted to see it. You know, I really kind of like the idea of Rumspringa (which translated means “running around”). It really gives the kids a chance to go wild and experience things they normally wouldn’t have a chance to. They have a chance to see “how the other side lives” without persecution from the people around them (usually) and without judgment. This really gives them a chance to decide how they want to live, not just accepting what they’ve been taught without question or personal experience. It lets them decide for themselves, which is seriously important imho…

*sigh* CSI: Miami…

Posted in linky linky, tv at 1:34 pm by fakeppy

Ok, so I am a huge CSI fan. I love all things CSI: Las Vegas, Miami, New York, I watch them all… But!! Why did the writers decide to give a “nod” to Britney Spears and her stint in rehab and her shaving her head?? It did nothing for the plot of the show and seemed like a serious afterthought. Here is a blurb I found about at TV Squad:

Most unexpected scene? That random nod to Britney Spears at the end of the episode. I’m not sure what the message was supposed to be, but an obvious Britney clone was checked into the rehab center, went to her room, snorted some coke, and shaved her head.

I think everyone needs to just stop obsessing about Britney, personally. lol I mean who CARES if she shaved her head?? Maybe her head was just itchy, like Pedro. :-)
