Dishcloth #05

Posted in dishcloth, f.o.'s, pics at 11:57 pm by fakeppy

Dishcloth #05 finished! It’s HUGE!!!
There are some mistakes in it but I won’t point them out hahahaha. The first one is more true to the color, but the 2nd and 3rd pics show the detail better. It’s also not quite as mishapen as it is in the photos.

Lunch at "Cracker Beller"

“Cracker Beller”, which you might recognize as the more formally called Cracker Barrel is a favorite meeting place for us and my parents. Its near the halfway mark between where we live and its a “drop off” and “pick up” point for when kids are transferred between our homes. Today Ally came home and we had lunch before spending the afternoon in a dreadfully packed Colts-crazy Wal-Mart looking for the perfect fabric for the needle holder/carrier my mom is going to sew for me. We picked out a really cute green fabric and a brown bow. I drew her a rough sketch of what I wanted. I am really excited to see the finished project. :-)

Dishcloth #04 and ALPACA news

Posted in dishcloth, pics, wips at 1:39 am by fakeppy

I started Dishcloth #04 yesterday but the design wasn’t able to really be seen until it was almost 1/2 done – so here is a WIP shot. Its an entertwined cable. (Not that anyone cares but I can’t put up a pic of Dishcloth #02 because I gave it to my mom.) *smile*

As for the Alpaca… I was rambling endlessly about yarn and other knitting tidbits to my dh yesterday and I said something about a llama (referring to Alpacas, but knowing he wasn’t listening I wasn’t going to bore him with details…) anyway, he said “those special llamas?” First of all, I picked my jaw up off the floor that he actually heard me then said, “Yeah, Alpacas.” He then said, “Oh, yeah, my boss just bought some of those.” I promptly picked my jaw up AGAIN and said something like are you serious?? He went on to explain that she bought them for their fur for the purpose of spinning her own yarn… O M G! I told him to tell her that I wanted to come and visit when she spins next time because I haven’t watched someone spin since I was at a Pioneer Day in 5th grade. Anyway, maybe I can get her to sell me some of the fur?/roving?/I don’t really know what to call the “raw stuff”. — FLEECE!!! That’s the word.

Sydney’s FingerWeaving

Posted in kids, pics at 8:54 pm by fakeppy

I recently taught Syd how to do some “hand-knitting” or “finger-weaving” whatever you want to call it. She didn’t get the hang of it right away, but has been working and working and now has perfected the art haha. She is making all sorts of Barbie accessories. She has made these two scarves and an accessory that can be either a purse or a haltertop. (Notice the Girls Gone Wild Inspired Black Bar? LOL No Barbie porn here!)

Shopping Complete

I did good, ladies and gentlemen! I spent less than $7! Not too shabby for 2 sets of needles, some tapestry needles, stitch markers, and 2 skeins of yarn, huh??

Hobby Lobby Half Price Needle Sale

Posted in inventory, needles, sale, shopping at 2:49 pm by fakeppy

Uh-oh, I’m in trouble…

Laura from my knitting group here in Indy let us know that Hobby Lobby was having a 1/2 price needle sale. Oh COURSE its the day AFTER I buy those birch dpns that I find this out lol. Oh well – but I’m obviously going to buy some anyway – I mean really, what’s a girl to do??? Say no to NEEDLES — at HALF PRICE??!?! I think not!

One problem though… I really don’t know what sizes to buy. I don’t wanna spend much money so I want to get the biggest bang for my buck.

Here is what I have so far:
SPN: 2, 3, 5, 6 (2 sets), 7, 8, 9 (2 sets), 10.5, 17
DPN: 0, 2, 3, 4, 6
Circ: 3(16″), 6(29″), 8(29″), 10(29″)

My thought process is that I should probably get dpns to match my circs, but I just don’t know. I’ve been looking online at some patterns I want to make and it always seems I have the wrong size for any project I want to do, which seems really odd since I have a ton of needles already. That’s the way my luck is though.

Looking through the WCTP pattern I am short a sz1 16″ circ needle, so I will try to pick that up. Maybe a sz3 spn and a 10? I guess I’ll just have to see what is there when I get there. I have buyers anxiety already!! LOL

Sock Lovin’

Posted in f.o.'s, pics, socks, wips at 10:24 pm by fakeppy

I couldn’t just let my cute new sock yarn sit around yearning to be “yarned” into something… So I looked up the Socknitters Mini-Sock online. It’s so darn cute! It knitted up in about 1.5hrs – while watching Wife Swap and half of Supernanny haha… (I knitted this on sz0 dpns, and it even was finished with a Kitchener Stitch, but the only needle I had was GIANT so it is a little bit wacky.) We did discover that while the sock did not fit Barbie, it was a perfect fit for Ken. :-)

And finally we have a picture of the inside of my “super-handy-dandy-never-leave-home-without-it-gotta-have-it-or-i-will-die” supplies box. Yes, it looks messy, but its really not, everything is neatly arranged in Ziploc baggies. I also always have 1-2 WIPS with me at all times in case I get bored.

Mass Ave Knits – I AM IN LOVE!!!

Posted in LYS, f.o.'s, pics, yarn at 6:30 pm by fakeppy

This place is so wonderful!!! It’s HUGE and they have like 3,452 of everything (although they were out of the one thing I really wanted lol – wooden cable needles.) They have walls and walls and walls of yarn and huge work tables and little cubby holes to sit and knit and snacks and a SALE ROOM and and and and the list goes on and on! I will definitely go back!!

I bought a few goodies – some Katia yarn in a cute colorway of greens, yellows, and lavender – made me immediately think of “The Lime & Violet Knit Along!” which I might have to sign up for now. Since they didn’t have the wooden cable needles I wanted in stock, I did find a variation that I haven’t tried yet by Clover. And the pièce de résistance [duh duh duh] my very first birch dpns. I am uber-excited to try them out. I bought size 6 thinking it would be pretty multi-purpose.

Oh, and I’ve also included a few pics of some yarn I forgot to shoot that I bought the other day for some crocheted doilies that I might try to make one day and a little Barbie shirt that I made a while ago – which turned out to be a little crazy, but the kids didn’t care.

DIY Charts and LYS

Posted in LYS, charts, review at 2:38 pm by fakeppy

I have some graph paper (regular not knitting) and I’m really thinking about going and buying some colored pencils and making some charts of my own. I was thinking about some great designs trying to go to sleep last night. I’m not an artist in any way, but I used to mess around with drawing squares and colored designs alot in high school – I think that will come in handy, then again it could be a major flop… like when I thought I could design my next tattoo – lol don’t ask… So maybe when Syd gets home from school we will go do that, we are going to a LYS we’ve never been to yet – Mass Ave. Knits.

Speaking of LYSs. Man, we went to one on Sunday, and well, I will never refer to it as a LYS again – it’s a nasty, dirty, cluttered, yard sale in a building. I had called the owner about knitting supplies and she claimed she had what I was looking for (sock yarn, some dpn, etc.) but when we got there I almost fell over. There was so much dust on the merchandise I didn’t want to touch anything for fear of a sneezing fit. And she didn’t even HAVE any sock yarn. She did have some knitting needles, but they were just all thrown willy-nilly (yes, that’s a word) in two areas on the wall with absolutely no rhyme or reason. So, the bottom line is – don’t visit the Crafty Owl in Indianapolis.

We did visit Cottage Knits in Columbus a few weeks ago and everyone there was VERY nice. They had coloring books and toys for the kids and a quaint little knitting nook, where 4-5 ppl were knitting – all around my age or younger. The owner was super helpful, and they had a decent selection of yarn from what I could tell afterall it WAS my first LYS experience. :-)

Knitty Paws is also on our list of places to visit soon, I’ll let you know how it turns out.
